As a member of the Institute of IT Professionals (IITP) I saw the benefits of becoming an IT Certified Professional (ITCP) and obtained certification in 2010.
As of 1st February 2015, this previous certification has transitioned to become Chartered IT Professional (CITPNZ).
Chartered IT Professional NZ (CITPNZ) is the international gold standard accreditation for senior IT professionals customised for New Zealand. IITP is licensed to award CITP status by BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT based in the UK.
Chartered IT Professional is recognised both within New Zealand and abroad, and as an independently assessed competency-based qualification, provides the evidence to support senior IT professionals who want to show they achieve real results in IT.
The advantage of holding this certification is that it demonstrates I maintain an internationally recognised standard of competence, education, experience and ethical conduct. In an evolving industry such as IT (which is considered to still be in its adolescence or even infancy compared to other professions) having internationally recognised standards is crucial to ensuring consistency within the sector which can also help to improve the quality of services and products provided.
So basically everyone is better off. 🙂
